Non-Fiction November: Some books I’d like to read

Over the past couple of days I have seen a trend floating around the internet called “Non-Fiction November”. This challenge was created by two booktubers Olive and Gemma. This challenge is all about trying to read more non-fiction than you usually would. I personally do read quite a bit of non-fiction, so in a way this challenge probably wasn’t set for me. However I have decided to (potentially) dedicate the entire month of November to reading non-fiction to help cut down my TBR a little bit. I have chosen not to use this years challenges as guidelines as to what to read, however if you are interested in hearing what the challenges are I suggest going and watching either Olive or Gemma’s announcement videos on their channels. So without further adieu, these are a few of the non-fiction books I would like to pick up during November. Project ‘Get my physical TBR to ZERO!’

Get ready for a complete and utter ramble! I have been trying to get my physical TBR down to zero for what seems like forever now. It started back in 2014 when I realised I was spending almost my entire pay cheque each week on new books, but I was never getting around to reading them because I already owned SO MANY. And then with #0by16 last year I was more determined than ever to get down to a manageable and preferably non-existent TBR. I was so invested in the idea of being able to purchase a book and read it immediately that I dove heart and soul into the idea of cutting back my TBR – but that did not happen. I never got down to zero. But still, daily, I look at my TBR shelf and know that I want it to be cut down. Slowly, day by day, I am making progress, but once again it is out of control and I know that I need to FINALLY get my head in …

September To Be Read

I’m posting every single day in September! Go here to check out everything I’ve talked about so far! I’m not one for TBRs. In fact, I’m pretty certain that if there was a competition for biggest to-be-read hater the award would go to me. I find it nearly impossible to schedule my reading – I’m your typical mood reader. However in saying that I’m going to try and stick to a (kind of) TBR throughout September. I have included a bunch of different genres and books that I’ve recently thought would float my boat – so I think I can maybe stick to it? Possibly? I’ll update you at the end of the month! Asking for It by Louise O’Neill This one is probably the biggest if on my shelf this month. I say that because I have tried to pick this up numerous times before and it’s never grabbed my attention, but I’m half way through another YA book at the moment (my first for months!) and I feel like maybe it’s the perfect time to try this again. Adult books I want to read soon.

Now I know, I know, the term ‘adult books’ is very broad. It could be anything from a romance to a mystery, from a psychological thriller to a sci-fi. But today I want to give you a quick list of some of the adult books I am looking to read in the near future. Sorry if I’ve blabbed on about them before! (I did a YA version of this post on Sunday, check it out here) Title: How to be Both Author: Ali Smith Release Date: August 28th 2014 I recently started reading Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith since its the book I already owned by her, and have immediately fallen in love with her writing style. From what I can tell How to be Both sounds like her most popular (and the most interesting to me) book and I’m very excited to pick this up eventually. Title: The Lies of Locke Lamora Author: Scott Lynch Release Date: June 27th 2006 I’m not positive I have mentioned on this blog that this was one of the few books I definitely wanted to read during 2016 – but it was. …

YA books I want to read soon.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been out of the Young Adult book bubble for at least a couple of months now. I’m not saying I haven’t read any YA, because it’s what I automatically go to during a reading slump, however I’m really not up to date on as many books I’d like to be so today’s blog post is all about that: a list of the top YA books on my TBR.   Title: A Court of Mist and Fury Author: Sarah J. Maas Release Date: May 3rd 2016 I’m sure everybody and their mother has read this book by now; but if you’re like me and behind on the bandwagon you probably haven’t had a chance to yet. It’s not just the size of this one intimidating me (it is fucking big) but I have heard that is very… descriptive per se, and I want to make sure I am in the right mood to enjoy this one. I don’t want to read it because I have to, I want to read it when I want to! Title: The …

Books recently added to my TBR.

I’ve been relatively good at not adding too many books to my TBR lately. While my mental TBR is thousands upon thousands long, I make sure to only add books I am interested in for the immediate future to my Goodreads page or else I get completely overwhelmed. It’s much easier to tick everything off a list and accomplish something if you keep it manageable!  Keeping that in mind, these are a few of the books I have added to my Goodreads TBR lately. Be sure to go here to check it out! Title: Save Me the Waltz Author: Zelda Fitzgerald Release Date: 1932 A friend of mine recommended this one to me while I was reading Tender is the Night recently! I’ve always been hesitant to read Zelda Fitzgerald, considering how much I love her husbands work, but I finally gave in and have added this to my TBR. I’m trying to find the perfect time to read this one! Title: Revolution Author: Russell Brand Release Date: October 14th 2014 I’ve been on a bit of a memoir kick lately! I …

Currently Reading. [2]

As I’ve been gone from this blog for the past couple of months I thought I should give you a quick update on what I’m reading. I’ve been in-and-out of reading slumps since February but slowly and surely I’m emerging back into the book community and I’m loving it! If I’m not posting here, I can guarantee that I am updating my Goodreads page so you can always go here to check it out! Title: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes Author: Arthur Conan Doyle Release Date: July 5th 2001 (this edition) Around the beginning of June I got an urge to read some classics. There was a girl in hospital with me who was an English Literature major and we bonded a lot over the books we were reading – and seeing her reading Penguin Classics every day really inspired me to pick this one up. I’m enjoying it a LOT so far, definitely more than I was expecting! Title: Tender is the Night Author: F. Scott Fitzgerald Release Date: January 1934 Along the same lines as …
