Around September I noticed my Goodreads currently-reading shelf was always overflowing with 5 to 10 books which was absolutely insane. There was no way I was actively reading all those books! So since then I have been making a conscious effort to keep my shelf to a managable number, and to books I am actually reading.
At the moment I have two books on the go, both of which I am thoroughly enjoying, so I thought I’d give you a peep into my current reads today.
Just Kids by Patti Smith
I stumbled across this book in a tiny airport bookstore and picked it up based on the recommendation of the salesperson. As soon as I got to my gate I started reading it and instantly fell in LOVE with Smith’s writing style, but ultimately forgot to pick it back up when I got home from my trip. About a month ago now I decided to pick it up again and immediately regretted not continuining on before.
When I finally got further into this, I started hearing about it everywhere. It was one of those weird ‘I summonded this into my life’ kind of things. It happens to be one of my favourite Booktubers (Max from welldonebooks) favourite books and TheMessyHeads (a brilliant blog, run by an incredible human, check it out!) started promoting the shit out of it.
As you’ve probably read I have been reading less lately, so as much as I am enjoying this book I have been definitely savouring it. I am currently on page 150 of around 280, so I’m not quite half way through yet, but I can already say this is going to be a highly-rated book in my library.
This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire
I’ll admit I haven’t read many youtuber books, but as soon as I heard about this on the grapevine over a year ago now I knew I was going to be picking it up. Will just so happens to be one of my favourite creators. His videos are some of the most well thought out, beautifully edited on the interwebs, and This Modern Love definitely lives up to his other work.
This is a collection of love letters, stories and photographs that Will sourced from people all around the world. The works Will selected to use in this collection are outstanding, so I can only imagine the ones that were left out. It is beautifully put together and a coffee-table book that I will be holding onto for a long time. I haven’t finished it yet, but I would already highly recommend.
And that sums up what I’m reading at the moment. If you have any suggestions based off those I’d love to hear down below! xo
