I will put most of that down to the fact that I was readmitted into hospital on Tuesday and have had a lot of free time to spend reading – but the more time the merrier, right?
I posted two updates throughout the week, but as this is a wrap-up I think I’ll just go over everything again!
Monday – On the first day of this read-a-thon I’ll admit that I completely forgot I was participating until I hopped into bed! But after receiving some book mail earlier that afternoon, I started reading Ariel by Sylvia Plath (a poetry collection). I made it to page 28 before I put it down for the night.
Tuesday – I’ve been thinking about rereading a lot lately (you’ll hear me talk about this a LOT in September) so on Tuesday I decided to pick up an old favourite The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I read about 70-odd pages into this before snoozing for the night.
Wednesday – I read another 90 pages of The Bell Jar but apart from that I slept most of the day, so I didn’t get much reading done!
Thursday – I finished off the last 74 pages of The Bell Jar (5 stars!) first thing when I woke up Thursday morning and that set me up for the day!
I also picked up Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – and if you read my blog at all you will know I have been meaning to get to this book for YEARS!!! I started reading it a few weeks ago, but on day 4 of the readathon I read from pages 20-160 and pretty much became addicted to the story. So, so good!
Thursday was such a good day that I even picked up Sylvia Plath’s poetry collection Ariel again and read a few more poems, making it to page 45.
Friday – By day 5 I felt I was on fire (with my reading, of course) and flew through the rest of Gone Girl (4 stars!) in mere hours!
I also picked up a very short book We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (5 stars!), which is based off a TedTalk she gave all about feminism and growing up in Nigeria. I am so glad I finally got around to this, and I definitely think it’s one everyone should read!!
Saturday – I had a bit of a chill day Saturday. I spent the day at home catching up on a bunch of youtube videos (why is there zero wifi in hospitals?!?) but I did manage to read about 60 pages of Ali Smith’s Girl Meets Boy. This was my first Ali Smith book – and I must say it was a lot more than I was expecting!
Sunday – I had the laziest of lazy Sunday’s in the entire universe. I literally rolled around in bed doing basically nothing for the entire day. But I did read the final 104 pages of Girl Meets Boy (3 stars).
I also began what seems to be one of the hottest books of the Summer (well, winter in Australia) which was The Girls by Emma Cline. This one arrived in the mail on Friday and I cannot wait to get further into it!
As of my goals for the week – I didn’t do quite as well.
Finish one of my current reads? Check! Start and finish another book? Check! Write updates on my blog? Check! Use instagram to share progress? Check! (also, shameless plug follow me on insta!)
Did I write two reviews? No, but I plan on reviewing Gone Girl, We Should all be Feminists and Girl Meets Boy soon!
Did I read a comic or graphic novel? No, but I read enough other things that I don’t mind!
Whether or not you guys participated in Bout of Books this week, what did you all read? Let me know down in the comments xo
